Vendor Managed Inventory means that the manufacturer manages the inventory of the distributor. The manufacturer is informed electronically, usually via EDI, about sales activity and stock levels at the distributor. The manufacturer reviews this information and decides when it is appropriate to start new production and replenish the distributor’s inventory.
